DARWIN TO VICTORIA RIVER - 4 DAY / 3 NIGHT BIRDING or PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR

DAY 1 - Pick up from your accommodation in Darwin around 7 am and spend the morning birding at one of Darwin's many nature reserves, which one will depend on what the group wants to target.  We will slowly make our way South to Pine Creek for lunch. The afternoon we will head a little south to target the many Parrots and Finch species in the area including the spectacular Gouldian Finch ending up in Katherine for our first night.

Accommodation - Ibis Styles, Katherine

DAY 2 - We will head off early in search of Hooded Parrots and Chestnut-backed Button-quail in the area. Later that morning we have a long but easy drive to the Victoria River Region about 200 km west, along the way we will stop at a few secret spots to see what we can find. The afternoon at Victoria River can be spent searching for Purple-crowned Fairy-wrens along the river banks of the river or go and look for White-quilled Rock-pigeons which are found up on the escarpments. Hopefully we also have time to search for the very elusive Yellow-rumped Mannikin which can sometimes be found in the area.

Accommodation - Victoria River Roadhouse

DAY 3 - Day 3 is "Finch day" with hopes of up to 9 species of finch in one day, possibilities are Double-barred Finch, Crimson Finch, Long-tailed Finch, Masked Finch, Chestnut-breasted Mannikin, Star Finch, Zebra Finch, Yellow-rumped Mannikin and Gouldian Finch. Lunch at Timber Creek and the we will spend the afternoon birding around Timber Creek.
